Journey through Cubedville
11/06/10 20:21
So I started this blog originally as I have started all my 'blogs'. With a lot of ideas, and a lot of good intentions, but inevitably it would all fall to the wayside, a victim of my short attention span. Writing without any sort of purpose is aimless and if there is one thing that I struggle with in this world, its keeping my focus. Funnily enough, after writing that sentence, I opened my browser and wandered through the internet, after which closing it, I see this is here.
So as you can see, if I am going to stretch these rusty writing skills, i'm going to need a topic that is inherent to my life and constantly at the forefront of my thinking. As I am generally clueless to the obvious things in front of me, it took the prompting of a good friend of mine to give me that topic. And what is this mysterious topic that has danced at the end of your consciousness while reading this, you say? Well I think if i focus on my regular job, this would die a quick yet painful death. So I will stick with my other night job. DJ/Promoter/Party Lover.
There's a lot of stuff contained in those three sections. All related, yet distinctly different in there own ways. Each is a position that could be done separately, but I have found that the best kind of people to work with are those who are at least 2 if not 3. Each has its strengths and weaknesses, but I find that a person with experience in all three areas can really understand what is required to be successful in this scene/world/sub-culture, whatever you want to call it. I'm not going to try and relate what other people have accomplished or how they do things. I am only going to write from my own experiences, from being a 'Selecta' (or DJ), to running a promotional business, promoting shows and djs, and generally enjoying the same fruits of others labour.
This is going to be an exercise for both myself, and anyone who wants to read along. I am going to be writing for myself, defining the abstract concepts that I have acquired and guide my actions and intentions, and in doing so, I hope I can be a catalyst for someone else's creative energies. I believe that creativity and art are things that should be apart of everyones life. Taking that special energy of your own and using it to show yourself to the world, and thereby encouraging someone else to do the same.
The first section, I think, will be what started me down this path. Music. A great unifier and divider all at once. Has survived and will survive us all. So please, check back periodically.
